This focus of work deals with business-related questions of health care systems and in particular examines research projects on performance analysis of the hospital sector, hospital financing and transparency of health facilities’ performances. Focus point “Operational health management”

The subject matter of this research group consists of elected questions on the purposes, implementation strategies and benefits of operational health management. Hereby, the focus is on methods and instruments of economic evaluation of health-maintaining interventions in operational contexts. This field of activity is managed by Dr. rer. medic. Natalie Pomorin.

Focus point “Healthcare system, health policy and governance of pharmaceuticals”

In this working group, international comparative questions on the arrangement of health systems are dealt with. Furthermore, aspects of the development of organisational and financial structures of the German health system are on the agenda. In addition, questions about the governance of pharmaceuticals are investigated. This field of activity is led by Dr. rer. medic. Anke Walendzik, Dr. rer. medic. Lennart Weegen and Dr. rer. medic. Gerald Lux.

Focus point “Health-economic evaluation and research on healthcare provision”

The subject matter of this research group consists of cost-effectiveness- and cost-utility analyses concerning medical interventions (especially: pharmaceuticals and medicinal products) as well as healthcare provision research projects are carried out. Within these projects, for instant, the daily healthcare practice is monitored by having a closer look at the diagnosis and therapy of elected chronical diseases. During the past 10 years, the professorial chair has played an important role in elaborating methodological fundamentals of health-economic evaluation in Germany. This field of activity is led by PD Dr. med. Dr. rer. pol. Anja Neumann and Dr. rer. medic. Janine Biermann.

Focus point “Health Technology Assessment and systematic reviews”

For many years, the implementation of Health Technology Assessments (HTA), systematic reviews and assessment of benefit, commissioned by the Institute for Quality and Economic Efficiency of the Health System (IQWIG), the German Agency of Health Technology Assessment (DAHTA@DIMDI), Corporations and Associations of the Health System, Companies of the Pharmaceutical Industry and Medical device Industry, have built a main emphasis of the chair. We are essentially contributing towards the development of methodological standards of HTA in Germany. This field of activity is led by Dr. rer. medic. Barbara Buchberger.
